I Did not do A levels or GCSE in a special needs school

Hey so you have read the title i am one of those victims that went to special needs school and honestly it was a mistake

To short i was a very violent and playful kid i didn’t attend class when i was in Nursery which results of putting me into a special needs school.

During my whole life in that school it was not so perfect i mean yeah i was bit perfect i joined that school since year 5 and most of my life was either i was lazy even tho i studied hard just to impress the teachers or i did not transfer schools my own mother did always ask if i was doing well and they did end up saying i was doing well and such until she always asked the same question am i ready to get transfer and they always say the same thing of there is some areas i need help with every annual review which was very BS because i was very good at something until sixth form which it didn’t help the case because i ended up joined a college at a very late age During covid i was waiting for a exam but they did not gave me it because i was not doing any exams. I feel like the council robbed me of my future yes i did struggle but at the end i still managed to go on too. Am i at the fault in this situation should i quit trying and just let go because i might just disappear.

That was the majority of my life and i absolutely hate it. I wanted to go to a normal mainstream because i was the only normal kid with delay issues but that was it

What can i do i know this is not a therapy website but i have been robbed and i am stuck in this situation.

Hi there,

I am really sorry you went through this. What are your future aspirations, if I may ask? are you looking into degrees? I am curious to know if you are eligible for any BTECs as this will give you a qualifying basis for uni.

Secondly, please do not give up on yourself. There is always a way into things, we just need to identify a correct route for you

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

Hi there,

there are college for adults that you can complete a BTEC at, I believe. Have you looked into these?

Also, as clearing has opened, I would call up uni's and explain your situation and they will be able to tell you how to navigate your situation and your potential next steps. I would call up a variety of uni's to. While you may not be able to secure something now, you will at least have some next steps.

Regarding your age, do not let that hold you back. Regardless of what you do, you will age. Use that time to do something fulfilling!

Hello @Asurawrath

Thank you for feeling able to reach out about this on here. You are absolutely right to say you are a victim! You are absolutely right to feel that the council have robbed you of your future! You are absolutely right to feel like you have been robbed and stuck in this situation! You have every right to hate this history you have, in terms of not being in the right education for you!

First of all, you mention that you were previously very violent, playful etc. This was in the past and this does not mean that this will also be a reflection of future you. You are able to change and it sounds like you have already started to change. I appreciate that on your EHCP/Annual Review, it may have always said that you were very violent etc and this may have stuck with you until you left compulsory education and I truly believe that is unfair, but that does not mean it is right. Don't let that stop you from achieving what you want. Because of your special needs it is likely that some people won't believe in you and that seems to be reflected in the fact that you were denied the opportunity to do your GCSEs and A Levels. However, you have to prove them wrong as you absolutely can do anything you put your mind to.

You are able to do GCSEs and A Levels if you wish. You are able to go to university if you wish! You can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it. Because of your special needs, it may not be a straight path as it may be for a neurotypical person but that is due to ongoing discrimination and the fact that we live in a neurotypical world which is not for neurodiverse individuals and they do not want to make it more neurodiverse friendly.

But in summary, now that I imagine you are an adult it is still possible to sit GCSEs and A Levels, but it is highly likely that you would have to do these as a private candidate, meaning you would have to pay for them, which I strongly believe is absolutely unfair. If you want to provide me with more details about your situation and what you want to do I would be delighted to advise you further.

I really hope this helps. If you have any questions or anything at all, even if it is just a chat about this, please do reach out. Our private messages are always open. Wishing you all the best! You can do this!!!
