London uni freshers wristband worth it?

Hi, essentially what the title says... there's lots of rly spammy looking freshers wristbands circulating but are they worth it? Do you think that I could get in at the door if I wanted to go to one of the specific events?
And are the Student Union wristbands worth it?
Thanks!

What University are you asking about specifically? might help with answering re: the SU wristband!

Hiya!

Hope you're getting excited about starting university soon!

When it comes to Freshers wristbands, it really depends on where you're seeing the adverts. Official university Freshers events are usually promoted through your Students' Union, and those are generally the most reliable. You might also see wristbands being advertised through WhatsApp groups or social media, sometimes claiming that things are selling out fast. While some of these might be legitimate, I’d be careful. They’re often promoted by people who are paid to promote and in my experience, the events don’t always live up to the how they are described and in my first year, when I didn't know better, I booked a ticket and had the venue and date changed last minute more than once!

Most official Freshers events can be bought around a week or so in advance, and in many cases, even the day before. So there’s no real rush unless there’s something you really don’t want to miss and then in that case, it might be worth grabbing your ticket a little earlier for peace of mind.

As for the wristbands themselves, they usually give you access to 5 or 6 events (just as an idea) at a lower cost than buying individual tickets, so it really depends on how many events you plan to attend. If you’re planning to go out a lot, it could be a good deal.

Personally, I’m not into the whole clubbing scene, so I’ve never bought a wristband. I just picked individual events I was interested in, like movie nights, pub quizzes, or bowling, more my sort of evening activities. But if you're planning to make the most of Freshers Week and go to lots of events, then the Students' Union wristband could be a good option.

Hope that helps and perhaps someone from UCL can share some experiences!
