Changes

I'm a CCCU student from the Elizabeth school of London HX building in canary wharf! Just before with one week of starting semester 2 we were notify that our schedule will extend with 2 hours. We are mature students with busy lifes so we had to make arrangements in short notice to maintain the attendance. They only said that is nothing they can do about it. Today we received an email from esl that they will give the 5th floor to the bath spa university and they will find another place for us, but they don't know yet where and that the changes need to be done until 22nd September. We also have 3 exams in September. Is this discrimination? Do we have any word to say in this? Is something that we could do? If they will move us in Holborn Campus I can't get there because I need to take 2 trains and one bus from my location and this is making me impossible to continue my studies. All this changes doesn't benefit the students. What should I do? They will say there's nothing they can do, but must be something we can do. Aren't we protected at all? Please advise me.
Thank you!

Hi there!

I'm really sorry that sounds like such a stressful situation - especially with how last-minute the changes are + exams ):

I'd really recommend trying to email the uni as a group if others on your course feel the same. Also definitely try reaching out to your academic advisor or course leader directly to explain how the changes are affecting you personally. They might be able to offer some kind of support or at least raise your concerns with the right people.

Explain how the move will significantly impact education. They may not be able to change the whole decision, but they should support you with adjustments like recorded lectures, hybrid access, or exam considerations. Unis are obligated to try to support as much as possible with students access to education so i'd really hope for you and the others on the course that they do what they can and are clear with the options avaible to help with the situation!

I hope things get sorted soon, wishing u the best of luck!!

Hi there,

I am so sorry to hear about this, it sounds like a really stressful situation.

I would agree with what has been said here - it is a good idea to talk to your course about this and see if there are any other students in the same course as you that will feel the same. You can see if they would also be willing to talk to your uni about this with you as you may get some more power behind you and get more attention to the issue if there are more of you speaking out.

I also think that taking to your student union is a good idea too. In my experience they have always been there for students and can help you to get your voices heard. It is worth a try as they can act on your behalf or even just try and find out some more answers for you.

Talking to your tutors or personal tutor if you have one is a good idea too. Even if it is not up to them what happens, they can explain what is happening or can help you get some answers if you need it.

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.
