Unsure about Computer Science at uni

I'm going into y12 and looking at possible uni options (as this affects my alevel options as well), I've always wanted to do Compsci at uni and do software engineering/programming, but a lot of my friends, my parents and even my teachers have been telling me that it will be really hard to get a job in the industry because a lot of IT jobs are being replaced by AI etc. Is this really true? How will the employability be for Compsci graduates/software engineering in the future?

The job market will be tough, as a hired computer scientist using AI as an assistant would be better than a computer scientist not using AI. So you could think that if a company would need to hire 2 people, they could just hire 1 if they could now do more work, with AI helping them.

The main problem with AI in coding is the lack of security. (https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1maynl7/amazons_ai_coding_assistant_exposed_nearly_1/)

Of course for people who cannot code, using a coding assistant to make want they envision come to life is great (A person making their own company), but the code is likely to have many silent error and security issues (especially when a normal person may not test the security, or not explicitly try to test for bugs).

Hiya,

Im currently about to do my final year of Computer Science and AI at the University of Sheffield and while there is no definite answer as to what the future may hold, I can tell you that I do not regret my choice. There is a lot of uncertainty around AI right now, there is also a need to further develop tools. The specific reason why I chose Sheffield as I wanted to go into healthcare and AI for my future career path and I found the research areas here aligned with my interests. There are several different sectors that make up Computer Science and while AI is on the rise, there are still many components of it that need further developing and testing. There are many fundamentals to learn that might not seem as relevant to an AI. If it is something that you are passionate about, I would definitely say to pursue it.

If you gave any questions, let me know!
