Job Hunting

I live in the UK and am 17 years old. I have spent my whole summer applying to Jobs and either being rejected or ignored. I feel like the only way to get Jobs is through connections, I really wanted to start earning money and now have a month till I go back to school, do I just give up and focus on revising for next year?

If it helps, my son and his mate (15) went knocking door to door offering to wash people's cars. They made £35 each in an afternoon.

There are lots of opportunities out there but sometimes you have to do a bit of leg work. Have you popped into all your local shops / restaurants and asked if they have any work, or more importantly, if they know someone looking? This, I believe is called making connections! Bear in mind most will say no, but you only need one yes and the job is yours!

And remember, the key job requirement is someone who can hold a conversation, ask questions and be interested.

Good luck!

It's always a good opportunity to gain some leadership experience if you can start looking for short-term projects to work on. You can explore university options through clearing and also course pages to know more about the career you want to pursue, and prepare some time for yourself to gain those skills to be ready for the professional world. This will help to elevate your career, boost your CV, and make you a standout candidate to pick among others. You can also build connections through LinkedIn and start following companies you are interested in working with.
