LAE Stratford Note Taking

Hi LAE Stratford Students,
I'm wondering what the policy of note taking is at LAE - are you allowed to use your own tablet or laptop to take notes? Or is it purely restricted to paper? If allowed, how many people do digital notes and do the teachers care at all? Thanks

Honestly, it depends on the teacher. I do politics, history and english literature, and I used to do maths and geography (not at the same time). For example, in politics and geography, you can take notes digitally, so I do so, whereas in history, we use laptops in class to access the textbook, PowerPoint slides, etc, but the teachers encourage us to take notes on paper to prepare us for exams. When I did maths, all the content was handed out to us physically, so no one used laptops. Ultimately, it depends on the teacher, so it never hurts to ask if you're unsure.

Okay that makes sense. Do you get handed out physical exercise books for each subject? I'm doing maths, further maths, physics and chemistry (if I get in on results day). I think for maths physical is fine because it's easier to write numbers and signs. But I would prefer using a tablet for handwritten notes in chemistry and physics, just because it's more content based. I will make sure to ask on the first day

Unfortunately, we're expected to bring our own paper, but we do get folders. I asked around, and for chemistry and physics, you can use your tablet, but again, it probably varies from teacher to teacher!!

That's really helpful, thank you for your help! Also, just a side question - how many independent study hours do you get per week? And can you go home early to study?

During the first term, everyone has to take 4 A-Levels, so you don't get any independent study time at school. At the beginning of the second term, that's when you can drop, and you get 6 free periods a week (5 hours in total) - you can't leave during them and have to be in the library. We can't leave early if we have a free last period since we normally have a super-curricular activity/club/assembly after school. However, we get study leave during all our mocks, so you just have to come in when you have exams, and you can leave straight after if you prefer studying at home.
