Choosing a Cambridge college

People say that the pooling system makes choosing a college unimportant from a “will I get in” point of view. Is this really true when you apply to popular colleges eg: Emma/Trinity/Johns? Does the being placed in a pool completely even it out or is it another layer of risk ?

I know people who were pooled to the bigger colleges (e.g. Trinity) even though they applied to smaller colleges so I think the pooling system definitely works. A significant number of offers are through the pool.

It is true provided you are interviewed. Which means generally it's true across the board, the singular exception being maths at Trinity due to how absurdly oversubscribed that one course at that one college is. For any other course/college combination provided you meet the stated requirements on the college page you have as good a chance as anyone else
