should i get a new driving instructor?

i’m currently learning to drive and i honestly hate driving lessons and dread them whenever i have them. my instructor is pretty nice but i feel like his teaching style just isn’t working for me. i’m not great with learning things verbally and i find that he just throws all the information at me, which i forget really quickly. i also get super anxious during my lessons and have come close to crying a couple times, to the point that i’m reluctant to book more lessons. so should i request a new instructor? i’m only 4 hours in by the way and haven’t looked at booking a practical test.
Have you tried telling your instructor that you struggle to take in guidance whilst you’re driving?
A decent instructor will adjust depending on how the student prefers to learn.

i have tried to tell him that i feel anxious and overwhelmed, but honestly trying to explain it just makes me more stressed.

Could you maybe text them between lessons and ask for them to summarise any key points whenever you are pulled up?

I would definitely change. If the approach is not delivering for you it make sense to try someone else. There’s plenty of choice and the customer is King/Queen. See if you can get a good recommendation. I reckon on balance women instructors are a better bet too

I’ve had two instructors. I liked my first but I changed because she was never available. My second instructor has taught me a lot but I still get anxious about lessons often, possibly more than when I first started.

Would I change in my situation? Maybe but I have a test booked before the end of the year so I probably wouldn’t change now unless it got pushed back.
For you? I think if you have to ask the question, the most likely answer is yes. I think the real question is if changing will help and if you’re actually learning anything with him. I can’t promise the anxiety will go, you could still hate lessons regardless of the change. But also remember that you’re paying them for a service and they should provide a service you’re happy with.
