What’s your favourite self-care activity when you’re feeling stressed?

University life is exciting, challenging, and full of opportunities. However, with deadlines, exams, new routines and the occasional bout of homesickness, it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes. That’s where self-care comes in. Whether you're already studying at the University of Nottingham or planning to join us in the future, knowing how to look after your wellbeing is a key element of university life.

So, how can you reset when things get a bit too much?

For some, it’s just a walk around Highfields Park or grabbing a hot drink at Portland Coffee. Others find calm in journaling, meditating, or heading to the gym in our Sport Centres. Maybe your go-to activity is reading a good book, cooking a comforting meal, or switching off with your favourite TV series. Self-care can be anything that helps you feel more like yourself again.

The University of Nottingham offers a wide range of Wellbeing Support, from professional services and peer networks to Student Societies focused on mental health, mindfulness and creativity. But often, the best tips come from other students. Sometimes, just hearing what works for someone else can give you a new idea for managing stress or finding balance.

So, here’s your chance to share. What’s your go-to self-care activity? What helps you slow down, recharge, or feel more in control during busy times?

Drop your favourite ideas in the comments below and help us build a list of stress-busting suggestions that others fellow students can turn to. Whether it’s something simple or something a bit different, your input could really be helpful for someone else.

Looking after yourself is a smart move (and something we all deserve!)

It can be something as simple as going outside and getting some fresh air, changing your environment is the main thing.

For me it's either reading a book, watching a tv show but mostly playing video games. Nothing takes your mind off the real world quite like a made up one

Yes, it's really nice to take time to be in the moment, to look around, taking in the sights, sounds, smells...

Yes, this gives you company too, feels like you're chatting with friends! The nice thing about this is you can combine it with some-thing else, like listening whilst building lego or crocheting, really losing yourself in the moment. 😊 Karen UoN rep
