Warwick/Reapply to Oxford - PPE

I applied to do PPE at Oxford Warwick York Durham and Manchester, have offers from Manchester and Warwick so far, and got rejected from Oxford after interview.

At the moment I'm not sure whether its worth taking a year off and reapplying or just going to Warwick (or York/Durham if I get offers from them). Also trying to decide between these three - at the moment I'm swaying towards Warwick because I heard the PPE course is 2nd only to Oxford's, but I may be misinformed...

Anyone?

Well, I think you should take the time to look around the universities you've been given offers from. Look at their departments, the other students and the social aspects, then decide whether you could actually be at that university. It's hard when you get rejected, the first thought is to reapply, but now is the time to be measured about things and look to the future properly. On that note, my friend who applied for PPE also got rejected, but she also got an offer from York. She was wanting to reapply to Oxford, but on visiting York she fell in love with the place. Consider whether it'd be worth taking another12 months of your life away for another potential rejection. You need to be pretty sure before taking the plunge that you could handle the potential consequences. But good luck!

York and Warwick are at a similar sort of level, although it depends what you want out of the course. I've heard that in the York course the branches are much more integrated, with the School of PEP offering modules that cover all 3/2 of the 3 disciplines. It's a much more well established course, as well, having been around nearly 20 years or so longer. I've also heard from many people who are extremely happy doing the course there. I don't know a huge amount about the Warwick course. I've heard that it's more maths-centric, although I may be wrong.

I haven't had to make any choices though, having been rejected from all but York.

Tbf, Warwick sounds boring as hell from my mate there, so if I was you I'd reapply.

I'm not sure about York and Durham, but I think they're fantastic unis, especially Durham. Warwick is seen as a little bit more respected than both, as a whole.

For PPE, Warwick is second only to Oxford, based on anecdotes from friends and colleagues. So, if you got an offer for PPE from Warwick, I think it's quite stupid if you won't get it, if money or cost wouldn't be a problem for your case. Warwick's reputation is just right below Oxford's -- there isn't a huge gap between the two.

Taking a year off is a bad option for your case. You can spend that "year" for your MA/MSc/MS at Oxford instead.

i am in EXACTLY the same position.
im thinking either re-apply or probs york.
look at all. yorks course seems really really good, and in terms of course i think it might be actually 2nd to oxfr=ord, kind of on a par with warwick. but as a uni, its sort of slightly under durham and warwick...might just be my opinion but yeah. but york has a PEP school, and modules which cover all 3 subjects, whereas durham and warwick seem more seperate.
i dont like warwick much due to the fact its campus-y and seems really far away from any cities, but that might be your thing.
and i think warwick is really quite maths based, as i only know people who have got an offer there, got them really quickly, because they did further maths. seems to be a sort of deciding factor....but that might not be the case....
anyway, yes. how about doing a post-grad at oxford?
look at it all first though. like feedback etc.
and what college did you apply to?

Ok well I'm doing Politics, Economics and English literature for A2, I only picked up maths as an AS this year so I am definitely no further mathematician..I'm not sure about how maths based it is - I think as with most PPE courses there is the same amount of obligatory maths in the first year, after which you can choose to drop any of the maths-based topics and carry on with whatever you want to.

I applied to LMH and got rejected after interview, what about you? I'm looking at doing a Law conversion course after Uni so don't really have time to do a post-grad.

wow. that sounds a plan!
applied to new, got re-allocated to ch ch for interview. which surprised me as ch ch seemed even more competitive than new, so why get re-allocated there?! lol....and then, yeah got rejected.
and they do definately all have elements of maths in them, and if you havent done much before tey provide extra things for that, just, to me anyway, warwick seemed more maths based than others.
hmmm, law conversion. well, id wait on the feedback from LMH, then see how close you are and if you honestly feel you can go through it all again, and be better. look really closely at what offers you do have. then go through the heard process of deciding!
good luck to you in whatever you choose to do.

I'm in exactly the same situation except for History and Politics. I'm fairly glad in a way since I didn't particularly enjoy my time in Oxford whilst I was up there for interview (my college was odd at best). I'm thinking of doing my undergrad at Warwick, which lets be honest, is hardly a bad option and then looking for a postgrad at either LSE or Oxford. I'm awaiting a response from LSE still but doubt I would take it as I didn't like the campus at all, have a friend who hates it there and am sure I'd have a better if less prestigous time at Warwick.

Hopefully see you there!

For undergraduate education, I doubt if there's a significant difference in prestige between Warwick and LSE. Thought LSE's strength is its grad and postgrad education. Warwick undergrad education is very well respected as Warwick is undergrad focused. But I do agree that LSE's grad and postgrad are superior to Warwick.

hello, i had interviews at Trinity and was rejected also. When i go the letter i had no idea about this 'feedback' or report. what exactly will it involve? because tbh i'd really rather not know exactly what they thought of me.

Well according to my UCAS director at my school (I'm not sure if that's his correct title), he'll be getting feedback in early January. So I'd talk to whoever manages your applications at your school if you want the feedback. I'm sure its optional so don't worry if you don't want to know what they thought - it's just helpful when you're deciding whether it's worth reapplying.

Hello there im EXACTLY THE SAME too
Rejection from Oxford ppe, pretty devastated did everything I possibly could and pretty upset teachers are telling me to reapply but just got an offer from Warwick. Happy as the course has a good reputation but I didn't like the campus when I looked round. Waiting on Durham and York, offer from Manchester. If I get a Durham offer I'd be tempted to go there over Warwick but I'm not sure which is better, the university of Durham appeals to me more and I'm desperate to hear whether I've got an offer or not, I did an open application. Great to hear from people out there in the same situation as me, what do you think Warwick or durham?
I was intent on reapplying initially and even thought about trinity Dublin or applying to somewhere in Europe ore America to see all my options but I think with the tuition fee increase, the chance Oxford will turn around and reject people with outstanding applications anyway and the difficulty of spending a year out of education when the course at Warwick is equally employable and you canalways apply for postgraduate at Oxford anyway, I think taking up ppe elsewhere is a great option.
Also I recently found out that Durham and Warwick offer year abroad schemes and oxford doesn't, so there are other great options out there...

I'm having a great time at LSE but still sometimes regret not reapplying to Oxford PPE. Just think about how badly you want the 'Oxford factor'- it's gonna make **** all difference to anyone but your ego.

I'm doing English literature, economics, history and religious studies a2 and have picked up maths as this year. I think maths isn't an issue you can pick it up when you're there, not everyone will have done further or the full a2 and may be a mostly arts and essay person like me. Although I'm not sure if only hvavin as level maths will count against me at Durham for the application. Xx

I'm in a similar position. Rejected after interview at Oxford, if I don't get into LSE, I think I'ma reapply next year.

What if you get rejected again when you reapply?

But the ego is everything

OP: did you do maths a level? Weird question perhaps, but if you didn't I would take Warwick and run. Or York or Durham if you prefer, although I'd personally pick Warwick out of those three.

I went through the whole 'Should I re-apply thing', really don't think it's worth it. Warwick, York and Durham are all very very good places to do PPE, I'd wait for decisions from Durham and York and make a decision as to which one of those to attend next year. Hope it all works out well for you.
