What exams have you just taken - A levels or GCSEs?
What sort of course / career entry level are you aiming at?

really underperformed in exams and too late to do anything about it - had multiple health issues and a lot of time in hospital, i really fell behind and it was too late to catch up with anything - also got a diagnosis of autism so i suppose I didn’t get the “reasonable adjustments” that really would’ve helped, and Failed just about all my exams except my special interest with flying colours but it’s not very lucrative in terms of career options and wanted to look towards engineering. The thing is I’m not capable of even getting into college with my results - I don’t have enough results to be allowed to sit my exams again at college and i really don’t know what to do. I really do want to go to uni and i don’t feel my exam results define my proper ability but then again its all that unis and colleges really care about and I don’t really know what to do? I have years of intense dedication and study to my special interest but I’ve more or less figured out its not helping that being the only thing i have academically

Hi there Hut,

I'm sorry to hear that your exams didn't go as planned and that you had to go through so much while doing them ☹️. I hope you're doing a bit better now!

I would recommend speaking with your lecturers to see if they can help redirect you to someone, and see if you can appeal your grades at all.
I would also ask your teachers for any references, if possible, as they may be able to put in a good word for you if you've scored high in other elements of the class.

I didn't score the best grades in my GCSEs as I didn't sit them (2020 covid period), so my grades were based on my mock exams and class assessments, which went terribly, besides the one class I had a lot of passion for! Similar situation in college - I had a lot of personal issues go on which had an effect on my grades, leaving me with a MMP (which is too low for most uni courses)...but guess what - I just graduated from my undergrad at the Uni of Staffs!

Anything is possible, and I hope you don't lose faith! If you show perseverance throughout your studies and in general, then there's honestly nothing stopping you

I really hope things work out for you! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to drop me a message or simply reply here - I'll do my best to help you out and point you in the right direction where I can!

Best wishes,

This was me a year ago. Find another college to go to (or do it at home), take a gap year and resit them. You can get into almost any uni that way if you work really hard

Are unis less likely to give you offers when resitting if they see you failed your a levels previously?

Unless it's like LSE or Oxford, not really ngl. Manchester, UCL, kings, Warwick, they were all fine with it in my case. Only uni I didn't get into was Edinburgh and they specifically emailed me to tell me that resit applicants are more discriminated against. Only the really REALLY top unis will actually care in any meaningful way if you have a good ps and high predicteds! You can get into great schools just fine. I got into them for a course on the same a level subject I had failed a year prior so they genuinely just do not care as much as we always worry they do imo
