DA vs Russel Group. Can you get into tech with a non-tech degree?

If I got a science (not technology) degree at one of the top UK unis, how easy would it be to get a role at a high-end technology company?
I'm debating against a degree apprenticeship with a huge international tech company- the degree is digital and technology solutions at a lower ranked uk uni. The salary isn't amazing or anything, but I enjoy coding and tech.

Any advice on what to do whilst at Uni to help career prospects?
What is it like working in big tech on the day-to-day? How about flexible and hybrid working?

You are looking at this completely the wrong way. Degrees don't get you jobs. People do.

What you need to do right now is think about what you want to do after university. You have mentioned global tech company so look up some jobs going at the companies you are interested in. What are they looking for? I imagine they are looking for someone with a degree (possibly related) but they are unlikely to care where you get it and will be more focused on the specific skills they are looking for.

A degree just proves you can learn stuff and write it in an exam. You may gain thinking skills but that is about it. Employers however are looking for specific technical skills or skills such as interpersonal, problem solving, time management etc. You need to be able to demonstrate these.

Personally, I would aim to do a sandwich course because grads with 1 year of work experience are massively more valuable than those with no work experience.

Good luck!
