Results day anxiety

I need a 6 in science for the sixth form I want to go to to study psychology. And a 6 in English but I’m not so stressed about that I think I can get at least that six and everything else should be fine .Its the science that makes me want to cry from stress cause I might get a 5 or a 4 or a 6 I have no idea and I’m scared that they won’t let me go in the sixth form or study psychology and I don’t want to change my courses and be stuck with something I won’t enjoy.Additionally when I get stressed about science I start doubting myself and thinking I did bad in everything else and I’m just so stressed out .I can’t talk to my family either cause they’ll just say it’s my fault for not studying

Hey- Don’t panic- I know that’s easier said than done but whatever effort you put in will show. What’s done is done now anyway, so you might as well enjoy your holiday. You’ve probably done really well, and the waiting is just a killer haha. And even if worst case scenario, you don’t get the grades u hope for, you can change your path and find something else you enjoy. Maybe you can have a look at other subjects at the sixth form or other routes into psychology. I think (from memory) some unis don’t need A-level psych for u to study it, so maybe take a look just to reassure yourself that there are alternatives. Dont worry!!!

Hi there,

I am really sorry you don't have a supportive family that you can talk about this with. Keeping it to yourself will only make things worse and I am happy you decided to make a post about it here.

You will have heard this many times before already but, let me reiterate, do not panic! We tend to be harsh on ourselves in high stress environments like exams, when we do not not need to be.

You have a passion for psychology which is lovely. My friend (this was 2018!) got a grade 4 or 5 (cannot quite remember) in Biology despite needing a grade 6 to do the A-Level. She still got in, and also did psychology and drama. She wanted to go into drama and dance at uni but after realizing the reality of job prospects, she did a degree in Psychology instead (I believe her offer was BCC) and acts on the side. It is 100% possible to get a psychology degree (assuming you want to study this?) and your GCSE grades are not the end of the world, even if it may feel like it.

However, I have been in your position and understand that any advice telling you to relax will be hard to take on board which is completely understandable. To ease your worries, I would recommend practical steps such as BTECs or perhaps other sixth forms with lower entry requirements. I would also talk to your school and see if they would let you study your preferred A-Level combination despite the lower grades. If the teachers feel you are capable, then they may let you do the A-Level. You clearly have a drive to study psychology and this is not just some random A-level combination - please do not give up on studying psychology, just look into alternative routes. Your GCSEs are not the end!

If there is anything else I can do to help, do let me know.

hi @Academiccomeback0. I can really understand what your going through as I was in this position at your age. I want you to know its completely normal to feel this way as a lot of other people do because your under a lot of pressure. But remember you have no idea what your results are yet and you can have done really well and you might even get the 6 you wanted! If this does not go to plan then plan B would be to talk the sixth form advisors and teachers. There may be a chance they offer you a place if you speak to them or even appeal. you never know until you don't try. Also please don't think your a failure. Do not let one grade define who you are or even your future for you! 😉
