does english lang and english lit count towards 2 separate grades?

if you need 5 gcse grades at a 4 or above to do a college course, would english language and english literature count as 2 separate grades towards that or one? i’m a little confused because on the entry requirements page for the college i want to attend it states “5 gcse grades at a 4 or above and either english or maths at a grade 5”. it does not state wether this means english literature or english language.

i’m homeschooled and so was never taught what this meant and can’t find any information online. any help is appreciated!

Hey, I know these are so confusing. English lit and lang are two seperate grades so you can use either for colleges as they don't have a preference (lit is usually easier to get) Hope this helps

hi there,

yes, they are two separate grades, as Lbland23 said .🙂 to ease your worries, you can reach out to the college to clarify.

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

They are both different subjects and do not constitute a single entity. I am also homeschooled. Additionally, if you do not mind, which college are you attempting to apply to?
