Second degree funding

I completed my first degree in BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance and worked in accounting for a bit, however I’m wanting to change careers and do a degree in Pharmacy. Would I be entitled to any student loans at all? I’ve read conflicting information on whether it would be eligible for funding as an NHS degree.

Thanks

Hi there, If you already hold an equivalent level qualification, then this will block your support and you will only be eligible for supplementary grants and disabled student allowance only.
Some NHS courses are classed as exemption courses, which do not take in to consideration any previous qualifications and students can received full support, however Pharmacy is not one of these exempt subjects.
Thanks, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, would the MPharm be considered as a higher qualification to my bachelors degree, as it’s an integrated master’s?

Hi again,

Unfortunately honours degrees and integrated masters degrees are treated as the same level. This means that a student who completes and gains an honours degree qualification will be ineligible for maintenance and tuition fee funding if they start or transfer on to any year of an integrated masters course.

Was there any other subject areas you were considering?

Stephen.

Ah that’s a shame!

No I’m honestly only really interested in pharmacy. I will probably wait until the LLE comes into effect as it sounds like it will make things a bit easier.
