what uni to go

applied for accounting and finance and management with placement year at uni of nottingham.
Same course bar management for city uni which is my insurance.
initially if i get nottingham i thought thats where i will go, but now we are considering the possiblity of going city even if i get notts or go to queen marys or kcl if i get grades through clearing. what should i do?
In all honesty i think i am going to get BBC at best ABB, and absolute worst BCC.

Hello @sogra07

It is understandable that this can be a very difficult decision to make, and it is easy to second-guess the decisions you have previously made. I cannot tell you what university to go because this is a personal decision based on the things you are looking for and where feels most like home for you. My biggest bit of advice is to have a backup plan of all the clearing courses and universities you may want to approach if either you don't want to go to your firm or insurance or you find yourself in clearing. This is not to say that we think you will not get the grades or anything but more so that by being prepared, you will be a number of steps ahead of those who have not come up with a backup plan.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions or anything at all please do let me know.

Hey @sogra07
It sounds like you’ve got a few different options and some uncertainty about grades totally normal this time of year! Here’s how I’d approach it:
1. Prioritise what matters most to you:

Think about the course content, placement opportunities, location, and campus vibe. For example, Nottingham has a strong reputation for Accounting & Finance, and a placement year is a huge advantage.

City and Queen Mary/KCL are also great options, but you might want to consider things like cost, commute, or the kind of support they offer.

2. Keep your options flexible:

If you meet Nottingham’s offer, it’s likely still your first-choice course, especially with the placement year.

If you’re concerned about grades, having City as an insurance is smart it guarantees you a spot somewhere you like.

Clearing can be a great backup if you get lower grades than expected it’s not a failure, just another route to a good course.

3. Focus on what you can control:

Make a list of the pros/cons of each university and course. This makes it easier to make a rational choice if offers or grades change.

Take another look at the different modules and course structure for each university, inlcuding the modules choices for second and third year

Don’t stress too much about the “perfect” path. Your grades will guide your options, but all your choices are solid and will lead to strong career opportunities.

Hope this helps!🙂

Hey @sogra07,

Totally get that it's difficult to make a decision about which university to go to.

In case you were considering similar courses elsewhere, just wanted to share that Southampton Solent University has BSc (Hons) Accountancy and Finance, which is open for applications through Clearing.

Hope that helps!

Hey there @sogra07 ,
Just checking in to see how you are doing. I hope that all is well and you got the grades you wanted 🙂
Remember to consider that the cost of living in London is higher and that each university has its own teaching style and culture. What matters is that you find the one that is the best personal fit for you and provides an environment where you are comfortable and able to grow. What are some of the differences in their modules, facilities, societies or service support?
Wishing you the best of luck on your university journey🤗
