ual interior design portfolio

hi, im planning to study interior design under grad at ual but im troubled in relation to what kinds of content to include in my portfolio.
i have a brief plan as to what resources and medias i want to focus on but i dont know how many 'projects' to include or if all the work should be a plan for one project. Im also finding it really hard to find examples and so i dont know how much writing/ text is appropriate

Hi there @mayashinh ,
Which college in UAL are you intending to apply to ? Both Chelsea and Camberwell offer Interior design related courses that you might be interested in😚. If you scroll down to the 'apply now' on their respective course pages, you can see some of the digital portfolio requirements. Ideally, there should be annotations in your work but kept to a minimum, as the work should speak for itself. Regardless of the formatting restrictions, your portfolio should be able to showcase your depth of research, personal voice and technical skill through your preferred mediums. You can check out the works of graduating students on instagram @interiordesignchelsea and @chelseaual.

I would suggest to check out the UAL Portfolio Advice as they have some format specifications that are informative when creating a portfolio. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in your university applications🥳.

Hi @mayashinh

It's great that you already have a brief plan for your portfolio And @Kingston Zhi En wrote some amazing advice for you!!

With a portfolio submitted to any UAL course, they want to see you and what you can produce, be authentic, include mistakes you have learnt from, include elements of your research and process, and don't just include final outcomes.
I would say include 3-5 projects total, with 1-3 pages for each process and a page per project for your final outcome.
I like to have a caption alongside my work. I think a few sentences per image is appropriate, as you want your work to shine more than you're writing in your portfolio.

It might help you to look at the course pages with students' and alumni's work for inspiration. Chelsea's BA (Hons) Interior Design and Camberwell's BA (Hons) Interior and Spatial Design

Wishing you all the best!!
