Vet med higher access course

Hi there ,

I am about to start a higher access course to veterinary medicine after working in a vet practice as a receptionist for 2 years .

Any tips of which universities accept the HA course and does anyone have any experience with the training provider LearnDirect ?

Thank you !!

Hello 🙂

This is exciting!

I've just googled universities accepting HA for vet med and there is a broad range. I'd encourage you to do the same.

Not sure if you want to live at home or study away so it's worth scoping out the options sooner rather than later.

Hi, I’ve been doing the learndirect HE access veterinary science course for a couple months, I already have a degree in animal science so I only needed it to apply for surrey uni as they didn’t accept just my degree. I know a few unis accept it tho!

In terms of learndirect it’s okaaay I’m only on module 5 out of 17 and it is a lot. I work full time as a Vet care assistant and juggling both is difficult. I would say the content itself isn’t super difficult but the work load is a lot. You don’t get much support from the tutors i’ve found so far so it’s very much independent learning. The first 5 modules are ungraded so there’s not much pressure u just need to pass but i’m about to start module 6 which is graded and need all distinctions in every single module which i’m finding really stressful. Also if your planning to apply for vet school this september/october you need to have completed 9 modules in order to get your predicted grade which i think most unis would need in order process your application.

Thank you that’s so helpful !
I am going to apply next year as then I would have had around 3 years experience working in a small vet practice

I also have two horses on part loan and am going to volunteer at my stables where I do jumping and volunteer at a farm

I hope this experience plus my access course will be enough but we will find out !

I wish you all the best ! Xx
