Clearing or not, help!

I'm thinking of studying Diagnostic Radiography ideally in uni this year,

I have three choices to make for tomorrow though,
Either:

-get accepted into my firm which is 50 minutes away so the commuting distance is a bit of an issue

-make a clearing call tmrw to a uni closer to me if they would accept me, however they rejected me for the interview

-take a gap yr, carry on my part time job and apply next yr

-help with advice anyone pls

Hello, good questions - thanks for coming to The Student Room

I would start by asking if you are wanting to live at home during uni or whether you'd consider moving closer to campus in accommodation?

I'd also be interested to know what their reason was for rejecting you - did they give you this feedback? Definitely worth a call if the course is showing in clearing, you lose nothing by asking.

Thanks for your reply

On Ucas it said they don't say why they rejected you so I thought there was no point asking

I've never thought about moving closer to campus but could u still do that at this stage?

Many Universities have now published their Clearing vacancies on their websites.

Difficult to say regarding accommodation, I'd say have a good look online and call them tomorrow to see what your options are.

In terms of the rejection uni, you haven't been told why so it's definitely worth ringing. You can expect a no, but you lose nothing by asking.

Hiya @rengs251 ,
It might take a while to get through but there is no harm in trying to give a call once their Clearing Hotline is open 🤗. If you are confident in your decision in pursuing Diagnostic Radiography but would like to live closer to uni, why not contact the uni's accommodation team or have a quick search on any available spare rooms around the area? I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in your application!🥳

It really depends on what’s most important to you!

If you’d like to start this year, can manage the commute, and prefer the certainty of having a confirmed place, it may be worth accepting your current offer. You could always look into moving closer after your first year if the travel becomes challenging.

If you have your heart set on a specific location and are willing to risk not starting this year, you could contact that university. However, if you’ve previously been rejected at interview, it’s important to be prepared that they may not be able to reconsider your application.

If location is your top priority and you’re happy to wait, taking a year out could give you time to strengthen your application and aim for a place that’s a better fit for you next year.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Hey there,
Where and when you should go to university is very rarely a perfect easy decision with no dilemma because of all the different factors that impact it.
Maybe start off by thinking about what you hope to get out of university and if you want to stay at home for any certain reason. I moved 2 hours from my home to Coventry University straight into university official accommodation and have never looked back. I really enjoyed the course so saw the moving out part as necessary to achieve what I wanted to achieve but it ended up being super fun. If it doesn't feel right to attend a university for the course you don't like then don't go, its that simple. The course should be the make or break (as it is what you are largely paying for after all).
If you are worried about money, you can always apply for part time jobs at the university. Lots of places will be open to students especially jobs within the university like working in campus coffee shops or student ambassador.
In short: Apply for the course that speaks to you and your passion the most
Hope this helps and best of luck
