Repeat 1st year

Hi,

I'm currently enrolled in a 4 year undergrad degree. Began with a foundation year which is integrated into the course and progressed to YR 1 of the degree Sept 24. I have failed 2 of the 6 modules and I am currently resitting the exams for these, 4 in total - 2 for each module.

If I don't pass these this time I will need to register as a 1st year student again and just complete the 2 modules I haven't yet passed, which both span the whole academic year with an exam for each in both exam periods. I'm wondering if anyone has been in this situation and can shed any light on how this affects funding from a maintenance loan POV. I currently receive funding from SFE and NHS bursary as I am on a speech and language therapy course.

If I am able to get maintenance loan for a repeat year but only completing 2 out of 6 modules, will the amount I am entitled to reduce?

Hi there. Would this be your first time on any course repeating any part of the course? Have you studied previously? Thanks, David

Hi, yes this will be the first time having to repeat any years, and no previous study!

Hi chloe.smith6725

You are entitled to a repeat year which would include the Maintenance Loan. If the university are considering this to be a part year repeat, the entitlement would be less than if you were to repeat the entire year. It would need to be calculated by an assessor once the university confirms the course duration and intensity.

Thanks, Clare
