Jump from year 2 a level maths to year 1 and jump from year 1 fm to year 2

Hi, currently year 11 going into year 12. I've self studied all of a level maths (got 94% on a pure past paper in less than half the time) and am currently on chapter 9 of core pure 1 further maths. I've heard from people everywhere that the difference between maths and fm is monumental, but I haven't really seen anything ridiculous yet; just a lot of content. Is it going to get harder? Are the modules difficult? Is the difference between year 1 and 2 bigger than in maths relative to their base difficulty? I want to know how much I need ot study to ensure A* in both come July next year

Why are you thinking of taking them early? What is your plan for Year 13?

i'm taking them early to study higher-level maths and spend more time drumming in year 13 (want an ftcl diploma). i'll still have 2 more a levels that year + advanced extension award so it's not like there'll be a shortage of things

What are you planning to study at uni? Most will want to see three A levels taken in Year 13 ...

mathematics with physics at cambridge. i could also take chem in y13 since i will be studying it unseriously but it just as easily can be serious. i just want to finish a level maths and fm so i can start learning higher level maths with a good foundation, drumming is secondary tbh

Cambridge won't like you taking them both in Year 12 - they like to see you can cope with a 'normal' A level load. All my Maths applicants either do all 4 in Year 13 or take Maths in Year 12 and the other 3 [including F Maths] in Year 13. Remember you will have to take STEP as well .. and 50% miss the STEP part.

hence why i stated i can also do chem in y13. i know about step as well. i plan to learn it after i finish further maths

Honestly I would strongly recommend you just take the exams at the "normal" time. If you are already able to do the material - great! You'll have that much extra time to prepare for STEP and to do as much practice as you can to get excellent results in your A-levels. Not to mention actually doing wider exploration of maths generally - maths at degree level is vastly different to the kind of maths you see in A-level Maths and FM for the most part. Exploring that stuff is also important!

As noted above doing an A-level early, especially an essential subject for the degree, is really a bit iffy for Cambridge. You also run the risk of not doing as well in the A-level and having done it early will get you no sympathy nor relaxing of requirements if you end up not getting the results you need because you rushed doing it early rather than just using the extra time to perfect your exam technique and make sure you are 100% confident with the skills

I meant doing both Maths early in Year 12 - this is not something Cambridge will like.
