Astrophysics at Glasgow (HELP!!!)

Hi I’m starting uni in September and was meant to be going to Edinburgh to study their Astrophysics integrated masters and was very set on it for a really long time but didn’t meet my conditional. My insurance choice was UofG and was wondering how people found the course as I can’t find anyone else talking about it and I am a bit worried how it will differ. I went to the UofG open day in October and then the offers holder day in March (?) but the physics building was under construction or something so i didn’t get to see it. Also I know enrolment for UofG is coming up and was wondering what some good courses to take along with my compulsory ones.

Congratulations on successfully getting a place at Glasgow - very impressive
Astrophysics is such a cool course, I'm very jealous
Majority of the first year will be very similar to Edinburgh in that a lot of first year courses give you a broad overview that you then develop further in second year and start to specialise into third and then fourth year.

What are your options module wise? And what are you currently thinking to choose?

Good afternoon @schrocat4 ,

How are doing?

Firstly, a massive congrats on your offer to study here at UofG

Although I'm studying Immunology, and not physics, there are similarities, especially in the 1st year.

All students pick their additional subjects during the enrollment process. You will get to choose a further 2 subjects from the College of Science & Engineering.

For more of the physics modules, you can view the course catalogue here, which gives you more of a specific breakdown - https://www.gla.ac.uk/coursecatalogue/browsebysubjectarea/

We also have a great AskAStudent chat available. This will enable you to speak with fellow physics students about what they chose and how they're finding the programme - https://www.gla.ac.uk/study/studentlife/askastudent/

Hope this has helped but please do reach out if there's anything else I can help with

Thanks,
Graham, 3rd Year Student Rep
BSc (Hons) Immunology
