Hi,

From my experience, it is not compulsory to choose your electives according to your career goals, however, it is recommended to choose modules that genuinely interest you and would be useful to you after university in pursuit of your career goals. This will expose you to needed knowledge and help you develop some skills needed for the real world after university.
