Cambridge foundation year?

So i'm predicted A*AA +EPQ and wanted to apply Cambridge for philosophy just to see how I'd do.
However, my GCSE's are 6655443 with extenuating circumstances, and wanted to know if anyone would suggest applying for the foundation year, as I would have a better chance?
I am eligible to apply, but am open to any comments ab this, if you have been or know anyone who's been in a similar situation!!!

Also, what's it acc like to do the foundation year? Is it very interdisciplinary, or can you focus on a particular area?
ik I can google some of this but I would really like to acc talk to sm

Thanksss ))

Hi, I've just finished the Foundation Year at Cambridge so I can try and give you some insight.

I think applying for the Foundation Year could make sense for you because of the GCSEs you mentioned, especially if you're eligible anyway and have these extenuating circumstances from the time. Many people who were alongside me on the course had a similar GCSE profile to yours.

The course is very interdisciplinary because part of the aim is to expose you to as many of the potential degree options as possible, but you are able to narrow your papers towards your degree choice (and in several cases are required to) if you are determined or fixated on that subject. The papers on the FY for the most part are not as simple as 'oh that's a law paper', 'that's a linguistics paper', etc as they are very interdisciplinary like I said, but there are also many where you can focus on and avoid certain areas easily. I personally really enjoyed the interdisciplinary nature of the course, but some friends also chose to avoid certain areas based on their interests too. If you get the chance, I recommend you have a look at the department website on the part where it talks about the course structure and different 'streams' as this will help you understand a bit better.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Wouldn’t recommend. Look at their freedom of information requests online, people accepted didn’t meet the requirements for standard entry (BBC-AAB grades mostly). It’s designed for people that don’t have the grades for normal entry but academic potential and extenuating circumstances. They’d likely reject you because you would not benefit from the foundation year there’s no gap in knowledge to be filled from what I can see if you are getting a prediction of A*AA and that’s exactly what the foundation year intends to do. Apply for standard entry, your chances would probably be better because they still look at GCSEs in context and you’ve said that you had extenuating circumstances. Also, the foundation year is more competitive in entry than most Cambridge humanities courses (minus Law). There would be absolutely no reason to apply to better your chances since imo it would be a hindrance.
