Warwick or York for Chem?

Need to decide by tomorrow. Anyone gone to either and would like to share thoughts?

York - much nicer Uni environment, and York city is lovely.
(Warwick is in the middle of nowhere and the nearest place is .... Coventry)

Hi!

We have a fantastic Chemistry Department at York. Most of my uni friends studied Chemistry and they are all either working in industry now or doing PhDs!

If you have any questions about the department or course, I'm happy to help! Likewise, let me know if you want to know anything about the city, campus, accommodation etc!

I love chem at York! Feel free to ask any questions. Living here is pretty expensive, but still worth it in my opinion, just something to be aware of. 🙂

Hi, I have lots! What were the lecturers like?, what support did you get with the placement? Accommodation - is it ok or poor? Which college would you suggest? Thankyou

Hi, I have no idea which college to pick? Read the overviews. Like socialising, sporty. Would prefer comfort too

Hi msmith2008,

I wouldn't put too much pressure on this decision, because as cheesy as it sounds, the best college is the one you're in! Our colleges all have their own unique history and characteristics, but ultimately they all provide accommodation and a community within the University. Each college also has a dedicated College Support Team, who have pastoral care training, to help you settle in to life at York, and adjust to living independently.

We have ten undergraduate colleges, five on Campus West and five on Campus East (I've added a list below), so to help you narrow down your choices you might want to pick the college nearest to your course. For example, if you're studying biology the nearest college is Vanbrugh.

Campus West: Alcuin, Derwent, James, Halifax, Vanbrugh

Campus East: Goodricke, Anne Lister, David Kato, Constantine, Langwith

However, you absolutely can live on Campus West if your course is on Campus East (and vice versa) as it's really easy to travel between the two: it's either a 20-minute walk, 10-minute cycle or a short free bus-ride.

I hope this helps! Do you have any other questions about accommodation or life at York?
Hannah 😊
