Deferring a Year

Hey! Like everyone else (hope all went well 🤞) I got my results today. I’ve been accepeted by my university of choice; however, I need some advice as some circumstances have changed for me. Ideally I’d like to defer a year. I just want to know if this is possible as the sources online are confusing me, and I’m hoping someone here would be able to help me!

Call admissions with your details and say you would like to defer entry for a year and ask if this is possible and if so what you need to do. Remember to give them all the information they need.

They'll also probably want a follow-up email to confirm this is really what you want to do,

Hi @WorriedPencil08

Congratulations on your offer 🥳🥳
Most universities allow you to defer after accepting your place, but you'll need to contact the university's admissions team as soon as possible, explain your situation and request a deferral. Good luck🤗

Maybe, in general most universities probably would allow you to defer, some may say they require you to re-apply in the next cohort.
Others will require a ‘valid reason’ as they prefer students not to take a break, this is more common in very competitive highly mathematical subjects where it’s very easy to quickly drop off the maths sharpness so in these circumstances a lot of is trying to make sure the student will be well prepared.
In general most universities will say yes, but it is at their discretion, so you need to get in contact with them.

Yes, it's a busy time with calls right now! I know it's hard but be patient.

Let us know what happens, please! :yep:

I reached out via email in the end, and they responded two days ago! Unfortunately it’s not available for my course but I’ve had friends & family help me rearrange some things so it shouldn’t be too much of a bother! Thank you for the help!

I'm sorry you couldn't defer but I'm also glad that you managed to get things sorted. Congratulations once again!
