Is remarking worth it?

I just got my grades back, I got into my firm choice (LSE)

I was 2 marks away from an A* in maths so my school is getting it remarked.
However for history I got a B , and am 4 marks away from an A.

My school said they won't support me in getting it remarked since they only pay for ones that are 1-2 marks off.

It'll probably cost me around £150 but idk if its worth it since I already got into lse. But part of my view is that ill be getting around 7 essays remarked, so will I be able to at least increase 4 essays marks by 1
As you got into your firm choice it probably isn't worth it, there also isn't that much point in getting the review of marking for maths but if the school is paying for it I wouldn't worry as much about that.
Hi there :hello:

A few things: first, you won't have your essays re-marked, only a review of moderation to see if there have been any clear and obvious errors. In an essay where marking is a bit subjective, I'd argue that that makes it less likely that they decide to change marks by 1 or 2, because the original marks could probably be justified in that case. Marks can also go down as well as up!

My main point would be that there doesn't seem to be much point if you've already got into LSE! Thinking about the next step after uni/undergrad, getting a good degree class from LSE will be much more important than whether you got a B or an A in A level History.

Congrats on LSE! Out of interest, what course did you apply for? In terms of remarking, I'm sure that especially with a subject like History picking up 4 marks across 7 essays is very doable - I would not be surprised if you moved up a grade. However, how important is it really that you get the next grade up, considering you already got into your firm? While I understand the appeal, there isn't really any practical benefits to it, and its not at all cheap. Personally I wouldn't but if you can afford it and are happy to pay, you should be in with a good chance of moving up.

Have they checked a copy of your papers?

I applied for economics and economic history.
I heard from a friend you get your money back if the grade goes back up. But I know my family won't fund it so itll come out my own pocket. Which tbh I can do but probably around end of August but I need to check the deadline

Nah the school doesn't help you if its more than 2 marks. So they didn't bother checking.

What would you do with that £150 if you didn't spend it reviewing your History mark? (Assuming you didn't have your grade change?)

They can request a copy of your script free of charge so it may be worth asking them to do this regardless if you're genuinely still torn.

That is a good point and something I have heard as well, so maybe it is worth taking the risk then. As with any bet of course, you have to be prepared to lose your money. Good choice of course btw!

Ask them to download a free copy of your papers so you can ask a teacher to look at it. Presumably they've one this for Maths a that marking is less likely to change? [You have to give permission for any review btw]

Okay i checked the OCR website and priority deadline is 21 aug , non priority is late September. Im assuming mine would be non priority since no uni offers are on stake. Secondly I was wondering if you had to pay upfront the moment you request a marking review or at the end (to see if the grade goes up or not since they won't charge you then).

Marking my exams. I'm fine with coursework not being marked

As you have been accepted by your university it probably isn't worth it, especially as if your grade does not change you will have to pay for the review of marking.
