Imperial offer

DS unfortunately lost the Imperial engineering offer as she fell short of 5 marks for Maths. She is applying for a review but devastated at the moment. Imperial are willing to reconsider if he grade goes up and they gave her some time.
She got the insurance offer from Manchester. Not sure what to do ?

@beoptima Hello!

It really depends on the timeframe she has for a review or retake; some universities give very little time to improve grades, so that’s worth checking. Perhaps give them a call to confirm this time frame.

Manchester is an excellent Russell Group university with lots of connections and opportunities, so it’s not a bad option at all.

You should also consider practical factors: Is one closer to home or cheaper? Does she want the full “uni experience” of moving out, flatmates, freshers’ week, and city life? Weighing up different options can make the process easier. I know of many friends who missed their firm choice, went to their insurance or went through clearing and have not regretted the decision at their new university!

Ultimately, it’s about balancing her dream of Imperial with a realistic plan that still gives her a great university experience and future prospects.

Wait.

Tell the Insurance Uni what is going on. If Imperial comes good, then that place will be made Unconditional and the Insurance will automatically disappear. If the remark does not change the situation and Imperial will not accept her, she has her Insurance place.

We were in the same situation few years ago with my eldest. 2 marks off an A* for engineering. Imperial agreed to reinstate his place if review increased the grade by end of August. Sent for priority service and grade went up and he’s now about to start Year 3 at ICL. Definitely go for review.

Hello - our son has just had his FM paper reviewed, moving his B grade to an A - it looks like they missed out one question. On universities - I think Manchester is a very good option for engineering and practically much cheaper than living in London, but it depends on whether your DS is set on studying in London.
