No, was one mark off
I’m so sorry but that may be why tbh. From what seems to be everyone on here people still waiting either missed their offer or are insurance/clearing students

This is just ridiculous, even if i was Insurance that shouldnt mean that I should literally get re-allocated.... And the email still hasnt come, what is with durham.

Reply 62

And also they keep telling me to log onto my portal but i havent even got my username nor my password even though they said they will send it....

Reply 63

Please say we dont get re-allocated its such a pain

Daughter is in the same situation. The admin and comms at Durham is very poor on this. There’s surely an opportunity to do this more efficiently and save the uni come cash

If I don’t get college accomodation I don’t know what I’m going to do… I’ll accept anything at this point but I’m moving from the other side of the world so I need something 🙏

Everyone will get college accommodation - that's why this process takes so long as they have to work out where the gaps are, and they'll be at least 99% full so there won't be many.

Sure but this isn’t really the dynamic.

The uni made an offer. I accepted on the basis of that. Now the uni is changing the deal. I didn’t want to be in a remote uncatered location. Why would I pay thousands of pounds for this?

The clarity and speed with which my friends who went to my insurance (Bristol) suggests Durham is out of step with everybody else.

I'm not saying it's not frustrating/worrying etc., I was just reassuring the poster who was worrying they wouldn't get any accommodation that they definitely would be getting something.

I agree it takes ages (and lately seems to take longer and longer), I'm not saying that is a good thing. Although it is different to other unis who have one central team who look after all the accommodation - Durham have to work with 17 different teams who all have different accommodation availabilities and types and then that has to be fed into the central team who are also trying to balance out courses in particular colleges etc. (whereas other unis typically don't require a mix of courses in their accommodation). It's not a good system at this stage though and I really hope they can make some positive changes to it for future years

How many people get allocated private accomodation rather than college accom - I read something about that

But last year some students ended up in private accommodation, didn't they?

From what I've just searched, Bristol's freshers week appears to start on the 14th of September - that's why accommodation will have been figured out much earlier. Our freshers week doesn't start for another two weeks after theirs. The majority of people have been sorted. It's just a few remaining which absolutely sucks for those who are waiting but someone is always going to have to be last.

Hello Everyone!

Having talked to the Admissions team, I can confirm that 90% of students have been allocated a college and for the remaining 10%, you can expect your allocation to come through by the end of today.

As for your login details, they will come out at the latest by the end of next Friday (12th September)

We know how stressful this experience is (having gone through it myself) but I can confidently say that you will not be disadvantaged at all in selecting modules or your experience here at Durham.

Thanks for being patient with us

Thanks for this!

It would be great if you were able to feed back to the admissions team sometime the levels of angst that this crazy process gives people; maybe in the old days when no one talked to anyone beforehand it didn’t matter, but being left till last and hearing all the stories about people being allocated to accommodation miles away from anywhere/too expensive is really horrible and doesn’t speak well for Durham at all imho

Thank you so much for speaking to them!

To be honest it would’ve just helped massively if they just had a bit more communication and actually told us the date we would hear by and not ‘a small minority will hear later’. Doesn’t help that the accom office refuse to answer emails - I’ve still got unanswered ones from early July and the excuse that they are busy doesn’t exactly run.

Also I get that the attempt to ensure that they have a mix of courses in each college is probably traditional but these days with more students switching unis through clearing or going to insurance choices and with such high student numbers I honestly think it’s getting a bit outdated.
