If it were me, I wouldn't rely on public transport and I wouldn't want to spend extra time commuting.
I think it's ok if you have a vehicle, but parking might be an issue.

Hi I’m looking for a replacement student for my LeedsUni accomodation ensuite room with a double bed.It's called North Hill House, it's a short walk to thecampus (approx 15-20 minutes) or is on a regularbus route. If you live close to york train station then it's not too bad, under half an hour on the train and then under half an hour walk to campus but it may take you longer to get there in the first place. there are normally plenty of trains so even if some are cancelled/delayed you can still get there. If you were thinking of driving I imagine it would be very busy and I don't know where you would park. There are plenty of articles too on wether commuting is the right option such as considering social life and cost of transport vs accomodation

i know plenty of commuters! if you get a student bank account with santander, you can get a railcard with it! makes commuting even cheaper. it's up to whether you want to deal with the hassle of commuting, but in the long run, you save so much money compared to accommodation
