Clearing: Which University is Right for Me?

It can feel like an overwhelming task choosing a university through Clearing, but it’s important to make sure you know what really matters to you! Here’s what to keep in mind before you accept a place:

Location
Do you want to stay close to home or head somewhere completely new? Some universities, such as The University of Law, have multiple campuses in different cities. This means you can choose the location that suits you best or even switch between them! It’s also worth considering the size of the campus and whether you’d prefer somewhere smaller with a more community feel or a bigger busier hub.

Support
Have a look at the different areas of support that are available while you’re studying. This may include wellbeing teams, employability services, or course-specific opportunities such as pro bono teams for law students. Some universities also offer other support teams such as The University of Law’s academic coaches to help you remain on track with your studies.

Rankings
League tables can be handy for considering some elements of universities, but they’re not the full picture (and not every university is on them). Use them as one piece of the puzzle, not the only thing you base your choice on.

Course Preference
Do you prefer exams, coursework, or a mix of both? Even if the course name is the same, the modules taught can be very different and may not be what you're expecting. Make sure you have a look at the modules and content offered and ensure that, if there are any optional modules, there are at least a few choices you like!

USPs
What makes a university stand out to you? Is it their focus on employability, their expertise in your subject, or maybe a bit of both? It’s also worth thinking about the social side and whether there are any socialites and clubs you’d be interested in joining.

What’s Important to You?
The most important factor is identifying what matters most to you. Reflect on the aspects that will enhance your experience, such as the campus location, course delivery, support services, or the university’s culture. Clearing offers a valuable chance to find the right course and university for you so make sure you consider all factors!
