foundation year or retaking a levels

hi
i got a place for optometry with a foundation year at City St George's but i was 2 marks off the grades i needed for the original, 4 year course.
should i just do the foundation year or retake 2 subjects and do the 4 yr course starting next year?

Hi!

Congrats on securing your place at uni! 🥳
Ultimately, the decision is based on what you think suits your individual needs best.

A foundation year's purpose is to set you up with the skills that you will need for university, that you may not be fully confident in yet. Doing a foundation year will put you in much better standing for your university course and it's specifications, and is what I would do if I were in your situation.

Resitting your A levels would be an easier option financially, since you wouldn't have to take out an extra year of student loan to do so, but will not provide you with the skills that a foundation year will.

You could also potentially request a re mark of your paper, but it's important to note that these are expensive, and may not change the outcome too heavily.
