University of Hertfordshire clearing

Hi, I applied for the initial year in optometry at herts through clearing yesterday. I called them as soon as it was 8am. The advisor gave me an offer over the phone but later I got an email saying that unfortunately they’ve filled the course and there are no more spaces?? I met all the requirements so there was no reason for a rejection. How does that even make sense?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened, I can sympathise with your frustration if you've been informed of one thing, to be told something different later on.

I would definitely recommend getting in touch with the University, are their clearing phone lines still open? It is worth calling them to explain the situation to find out what the options are from here - could just be a system or human error of some sort.

I hope you manage to get it sorted out!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I’ve been calling them a lot and it’s just been the same thing again and again: “we are really sorry but the course is filled, we may have places over the next few days but there is no guarantee.” Not sure what to do at this point.

Hey, the same thing happened to me and I was on call with them for 2 hours. It turned out that they made a duplicate of my application, and they had only rejected one of them but had accepted the other which is why I got the rejection email. Maybe call them again and ask to speak to a supervisor as that’s how I got the issue sorted. You can also check on UCAS as it may say you’ve gotten accepted on there.

The course is filled now so is it still worth me speaking to them?

I think it might be as long as you added the foundation year onto your UCAS hub by 7:00am on April 15th. If you didn’t do that, that might be why your spot was taken. If you did do that, then get on call with them because it’s totally unfair of them to take your space when they gave you an offer, just make sure to talk to a supervisor cause they know how to help you properly.

I did do that, which is why I’m so annoyed that I was rejected.. I don’t know why they did that and I’m pretty sure I won’t get a space now anyways

Hey, they really cannot take away your offer then. Unless you’re no longer interested in the course or found something else you’re interested in you should deffo call them because I also got that same email telling me the course has been filled even though I still had a space. It may be that you’ve been accepted on UCAS even though they said the course was filled. Plus you don’t lose anything calling. Maybe ask if a duplicate of your application was made like mine and that’s what caused the problem? I totally get your frustration tho how annoying 😒😒. I hope it works out for you!!
