Resitting A levels for DHT

i received my grades yesterday and was not happy with them at all and ive been looking into resitting all 3 subjects because i know i can do better. my grades were awful (CDD in bio chem and maths respectively) and that is completely my fault. i'm unsure of the process of applying, exam centres, costs, ucas and predicted grades. i know certain unis dont allow resits and i want to go into dental therapy and hygiene. please could i get some advice on this and people's experiences if you also resat theirs ? thank you

Heyyy @blu33cat 🤗

I'm sorry to hear you aren't happy with your grades. Despite that, I hope you can feel proud of yourself for doing your best and know that grades don't define you. It's good to see you're thinking more positive and know you could do better by trying again, that energy is just what you need to tackle these exams again 🙂

Almost all uni's accept resit results, but you could contact the admissions team of the uni's you were interested in and double check with them to ease your mind. You can usually just find the contact emails for admissions on the uni website if you search for it.

I found some information on the gov.uk website here about exam resits so hopefully some of this is helpful.

Best of luck with everything and I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Go and talk to your school about the practicalities of retaking your A levels - send your Head of Sixth or similar about this today.

Usually schools will allow anyone resitting to reapply through their UCAS portal and will help with applications etc, and will provide new predicted grades. Just talk to your school.

I would enter as a Private Candidate - External at Campbell Harris College in Kensington here in London. The exams cost £400 each for Maths, Chemistry and Biology and you can study any examboard from Pearson Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJEC/Eduqas. Also, there are around 3,000 candidates who are mature students in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s and 60s.More importantly, I would highly recommend UpLearn for £400 each for Maths, Chemistry and Biology and it is more value than a tutor. 😉 Lastly, use the free YouTube videos from ExamSolutions, BicenMaths, HindsMaths and TLMaths and you should achieve a minimum of an A grade or more likely an A* grade with lots of past exam paper practice questions. But for Chemistry I recommend YouTube and Chemguide and Chemrevise. Biology also has some awesome websites out there if you search online.

Lastly, use past papers, mark schemes and examiner reports from all examboards. 😉

I'm in the exact same position as you, I had an offer at UOB but did not get the grades. UOB is my dream university and am scared they would not give me another interview as I didn't get in the first time. Do you think resits will affect our chances of getting onto this course?

I’m in the same situation.
I wanted to do medicine but I got a BCC respectively in chem bio and maths.
I’m resitting but I need predicted grades that are AAA at least for me to get any offers at all.
I’m ringing in my college on Monday but I’m pretty sure they won’t give me those for my predicted as we have had some arguments before when I was trying to apply to med via UCAS.
Please help

hi !! from my research, ive found that obviously resit applicants wont have the grades high enough that are needed for their course and you could, like you said go through your college, but they might not give you the grades you want. you can also find a teacher to write your references that will do your predicted or find private tutors that can write them too. but usually for this method you’ll have to do mock tests to gauge where you currently are. im not sure if i worded this well but i hope this helps i can send you some more info u can text me !

There is a company called 'Tutors and Futures' which I have contacted today who instead of doing mocks actually ask you to send over any past papers, revision material or essays that have been done and they work with you to help predict you what you want. However, their services are more expensive than doing mocks with an exam centre but if this is something you really dont want to do (like me) this might be the safer option to go with. They also can write an academic reference for you. I was thinking of getting my reference done by one of my old teachers and then getting my predicted grades done like this however I dont think that is entirely possible lol

I did have a private tutor ready to do my predicted grades but UCAS says my application needs to be through a UCAS registered centre and my tutor is just a normal private tutor.
I don’t think UCAS will accept that

did you ring them up
I can’t see much on their website sorry lol

Hey, I'm in the exact same boat as you I applied for dental therapy and hygiene last year and got a place but missed out because I got CDD so I'm going to email all the Uni's and see what they say and let you know too.
