Clearing: Myths, Emotions and Staying Calm.

Clearing can feel like a big, scary and complicated word especially if you’re waiting on exam results or didn't get the grades you expected. However, it’s simply another route to securing a university place, and thousands of students every year, use clearing to secure a place at a university.

I have been working amongst the clearing team, and its been wonderful to speak to so many students and secure spaces for them or at least put them on a waiting list.

Common misconceptions about Clearing:

"It’s only for people who failed." Not true at all. Many students go through Clearing for various reasons, maybe they changed their mind about their course, didn’t accept any offers, or their grades turned out differently than expected.

"All the good courses are gone." Universities still have places open for Clearing, and there are often fantastic options available right up until the deadline.

"It’s a panic decision." With a little preparation, you can make a thoughtful choice that’s right for you. Additionally, our clearing lines are open across various times and dates so it's best to do some research and know what you are signing up for and if there's a new course you haven't heard of.

It’s normal to feel anxious, disappointed, or even excited. Clearing can be an emotional rollercoaster, and that’s okay, it just means you care about your next steps and want to make the right decision for you.

Tips for managing stress and anxiety during Clearing:

1. Focus on what you can control You can’t change results, but you can choose how you respond and what you do next.

2. Remember it’s not the end of the world Many people find an even better fit through Clearing than their original choice. This is what happened, to one of my friends.

3.Talk to someone you trust Friends, family, or even a teacher can help you keep perspective.

If you’ve got questions about Clearing, big or small, simple or complicated pop them in this forum. You’re not alone, and there’s support available everywhere!
