grad jobs after a bad uni

so im about to go into my second year of psychology at LSBU and my alevel grades were A in Psychology B in Biology and D in chemistry. The D reduced my scope of choice when going through clearing last year. My concern is that I wont be able to get a job due to graduating from LSBU. I dont necessarily want to go into Psych in the sense that I dont mind completely switching routes or using my Psychology degree for something close enough to the field so im not sure if I went into postgrad at a better uni if it would be worth it or if it would better my chances. Im honestly not chuffed about the ranking of my uni and the grad job prospects especially with such an unstable degree. Any advice?

The uni you go to for a psychology does not matter at all. If the degree is accredited and you get a good classification then nothing else matters. Job prospects are also more related to you as a person and what practical abilities you have, so in the nicest possible way stop thinking negatively and work on developing the above core factors, and the rest will take care of itself.

Hi there, It makes complete sense that you’re thinking carefully about your future. At London South Bank University, the Psychology programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society, which is an important benchmark. BPS accreditation means your degree meets professional standards and gives you the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership a key requirement if you eventually want to pursue professional routes such as clinical, educational or counselling psychology. This accreditation is widely recognised and is something employers and postgraduate programmes value.

In terms of employability, LSBU is committed to supporting students throughout their degree and beyond. The Employability and Placements Service offers tailored workshops, one to one career guidance, industry networking opportunities and job boards to help you prepare for the labour market. You can access these services from your first year and for some time after graduation, which can give you a strategic advantage when planning applications, placements, internships or part-time work that complements your academic studies.

Finally, concerns about university rankings or reputation are understandable, but it’s worth noting that employers look for evidence of skills, experience and how you present yourself in applications and interviews just as much as they look at where you studied. Your time at LSBU including access to industry connections, placements and careers support is designed to equip you with practical, professional readiness as well as academic knowledge. Exploring placements, part-time roles, volunteering, and taking full advantage of careers events and guidance can be powerful ways to prepare for the future you want.

You are always welcome to explore LSBU and get a real feel for what student life is like here. We have a Southwark open day: Saturday 7th February 2026 where you can hear more about our courses and support. If you would prefer to see the campus in person you can book a tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days on a day that suits you and get a sense of the spaces you would be studying in. You can also chat to our current students https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to hear honest experiences and get answers to any course questions you might have.
