computer science and maths at uni

i'm considering switching from maths to computer science and maths for uni. however I haven't ever studied computer science before. I know that the alevel is not needed (only maths and fm are) but could anyone with any experience of it possibly tell me if I would find it quite hard at the start/ feel like I am much behind everybody else? do they start from the very basics or do they assume a bit of prior knowledge? thankss

Hi serafina1,

While I don't study either of those subjects, from my experience, first year of university is about getting everyone to the same level regardless of background. Everybody on the course will have different amounts of experience in the area, hence why they focus on core modules in first year. Regardless of the university you choose, core modules are really helpful in laying the foundations of the subject. I would recommend however, perhaps spending some time immersing yourself in the subject before you start, as while the core modules are extremely helpful, anything you can learn beforehand will be beneficial in your understanding.

Wishing you the best of luck!
