Dropping an a level

Hi, I’m currently doing Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and my native language (externally). I’m finding Chemistry really hard I’m predicted a B but realistically I think I’ll end up with a C.

I was wondering, would my school let me drop Chemistry and only study 2 A-levels in school (Biology + Maths), while continuing with my native language A-level externally? I’d still sit the exam for my language at school, but I’d just be self-studying it.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where you officially do 2 A-levels in school and 1 outside? Do schools usually allow this, or do they expect everyone to take 3 in school?

I don’t actually need Chemistry for the degree I want to do, so I feel like it might be better to focus on the subjects I enjoy and can do well in.

Schools do let students do two A-levels but this is in very limited circumstances and because you are doing reasonably well in Chemistry they might not be so keen to let you drop it. They probably also wouldn't like that you are doing an A-level externally and would quite possibly want you to drop that before even considering letting you drop Chemistry.

Hi!

With this, the only advice I can really give is to just ask your college, and see what they make of the situation. It'll be decided on an inividual basis across institutions, so you can really only just ask and see what they say.

Dropping chemistry seems like a great option for you, in my eyes - if you don't need it for your degree, then it would be better to focus on studying the ones that you do actually need and putting more time and effort in for those.

Universities typically only need three A levels for you to apply, so you'll be fine to drop one if your college allows it.

Hope this helps,

Best to ask your school really.
Different schools have different rules/policies. And if they do allow it, it might be on an individual case by case basis.

The problem is you won't be a full-time studnets with just two A levels ...
