cats anywhere in glasgow?

i want to study at glasgow uni starting september 2026, and i want to bring my cat with me. does anyone know any options that could allow this to work? especially within a flatshare/houseshare situation, as i prefer living with people. i want to bring the cat so badly because i have autism and animals really help to calm me down when i get upset, but sadly i dont qualify for it to be a service animal so its just a regular (but neccessary) pet. I am on PIP for the autism as it is a disability, in case that helps inform any replies? hopefully i get some. i dont know how ill cope through uni without a cat tbh

Unfortunately, almost all university managed accommodation doesn't allow pets, but I would contact the accommodation team at Glasgow and explain your situation because they may be able to guide you through this situation. I really empathise as I am autistic myself and my dog means the world to me, though I did not go to university with her. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask!

Very similar issue here but I'm starting this Sept, my cat is the only reason I get out of bed in the mornings to feed her 💔 The last time I lost my previous cat the mental drop after was awful and left me bedridden for over a week, and I keep finding myself thinking of this situation in a similar light when I think too much about it. You're not alone, don't worry.

Yeah... From what I've searched there are no university accommodations that accept it. I've also read uni of Glas do accept support animals but with a lot of official evidence directly about why the pet is needed (not just our diagnoses), and a more "serious" reason. I've kind of just had to accept for my first year I can't have her as I'm in university halls. I have some savings already and I plan to work after 1st semester, so in my 2nd year in 2026, I plan to find student housing to rent that accepts pets. Or possibly rent normally, if I'm lucky with prices at the time and 1st year goes well for me

I know it's necessary to have them, but it's very likely you're going to have no choice but to leave them temporarily, unless you just don't go to university. Especially the costs that come with our furry friend alongside renting out of halls and the new responsibilities that come with it, it is recommended that you have your first year in halls if not staying at home
