Uni of York - Is living on campus a bubble?

I have a place studying English at UoY, but I’m worried about missing out on big city life. Is living on campus like living in a bubble?

Hi!

Congrats on your place! I really enjoyed living on campus in my first year - I felt like I really got the university experience and threw myself into societies and activities. The city centre always felt in easy reach though. I went into town all the time and there was always loads on in the city. York Station has direct trains to lots of other places, so I found it easy to get away for a weekend and I didn't feel like I was in a bubble.

In your second year, you can choose to live much closer to the city centre and spend less time on campus if you like. 🙂

Hi, I'll be going to UoY to study History, but I've been to the city and the campus a lot beforehand. York is a compact city, but there's always tons to do - York theatre is especially good, and there are tons of concerts, but the pub scene looks pretty good too. It's a good idea to have a look at what's going on in the city at large, as well as any uni-based activities/societies you may want to join.

Campus is about a 30 minutes walk from the very centre of York - or a 15 minute bus ride - and it feels very connected to the rest of the city, if you don't mind a short commute now and then.
