Second degree funding

My mum is looking to do the BSc (Honours) Psychology with Counselling at the open university part time. She started a part time degree years ago but had to stop due to the health of a family member. She would be 69 when she started the course.

Would she be able to get a tuition fee loan?

Hi there, does she hold a qualification?

She wouldn't be eligible for the part time maintenance loan but can apply for the fees.

Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the replying. Her highest qualification is an HND in business studies

Can I also ask it you know if the lifelong learning entitlement will affect people starting on the ELQ exception courses after it comes in?

Thanks. It would just be the part time fees.

We're not sure as of yet regarding Lifelong Learning Entitlement so if she's looking to start her course after Jan, 2027 I would advise checking just prior to this when we should have more information regarding eligibility. Thanks, Jason
