Will I get a third attempt? Third and finally year of uni

I’m studying adult nursing and my course ends in September. I have passed everything including my dissertation. I have also completed my management placement and have been signed off. I am currently on a retrieval to complete my hours which I will be done with before the end of September. I had one last module which was an oral presentation. I failed the first time and done a second attempt and unfortunately failed again after all of my hard work. I’m so stressed because I’m not sure if will get a third attempt as I will be graduating in January. And I’m not sure if there’s another exam and progression board in November. I have emailed the head of nursing at my uni and I’m waiting for Monday to go the student union. Help ! Any advice

Hey,

That sounds like such a stressful situation, especially after putting in all that work and being so close to the finish line. It’s completely understandable to feel anxious right now, but the fact you’ve already passed your dissertation, completed placements, and nearly finished your hours shows you’ve achieved so much already. This last module is just one final hurdle.

Usually with modules like oral presentations, universities will have clear rules around the number of attempts you get, and sometimes there can be exceptional circumstances or progression boards that allow a third attempt if you’ve demonstrated enough progress elsewhere. Since you’re waiting to hear back from the head of nursing, that’s the best first step, and going to the student union on Monday is a really smart move too. They can give proper guidance on university policy and even help advocate for you.

It’s also worth checking your course handbook or regulations for information about reassessment opportunities and when boards meet. Sometimes if there isn’t another progression board until later, you might just have to wait until then to be confirmed, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve failed the course or won’t graduate, it just affects the timing.

You’ve clearly put so much effort in and are doing the right things by reaching out. Try not to let this overshadow how far you’ve come. Keep pushing for clarity from your uni, and in the meantime maybe think about what support (like practice orals, presentation coaching, or peer feedback) you could access if you do get another chance.

You’re definitely not alone in this. Lots of students hit a stumbling block with one last assessment, but it doesn’t take away from everything you’ve achieved. Fingers crossed you get the confirmation you need soon 🤞

Good luck 😊

Thank you so much for your kind words. It has honestly been such a tough time. I spoke to my part lead and he said that it’s up to the exam board. Others in my co hort have got a third attempt on a module which was earlier in the year which was worth the same credits. It would be a shame if they don’t allow me a third attempt honestly. Nursing is such a tough course to get by.
