What to expect in y13 (bio chem maths CS > want to do med)

Hii I’m really worried for year 13 and like how intense is it right when you start? I have my UCAT like the day before, and basically haven’t had time to ‘revise ahead’ or anything for y13 a level content
I’m fairly solid on y12 stuff, and got A/A* in end of year exams BUT icl I was pretty lazy in y12 w my revision and didn’t really do much everyday, just crammed before tests which was bad :/

BUT if I start doing a solid 3 hours a a day after school in y13 do you think it will be manageable? I also need to do extra reading/prep for med interviews etc and it’s a lot to fit in, so I’m worried about managing EVERYTHING
I really want A*s hopefully!

Thanks!

You dont need 4 A levels - it wont give you any advantage at all, and if anything, you risk messing up all your other grades. Drop Maths or CS.

Hi, as someone who’s been there with UCAT like a few days before y13 prep and interviews and all, your academic performance may drop a little during interview prep as it can be hard to schedule homework, but you should be able to get extensions for these.

Y13 isn’t too intense when you start, but I think it really depends on when your mocks are and what subjects you do. It may help to get a copy of your schools curriculum map to see what you might be missing out on when the time comes for interviews, so that you might preview this work or focus on catch-up after.

Hello hi, I did 4 a-levels in college (bio, cs, it, welsh bacc) and then did a gap year to self-study chemistry a-level now going off to uni in sept to study medicine.

My first bit of advice would be to drop a subject if possible, you will not benefit from having 4 subjects over 3 (I would only recommend keeping the 4 if you genuinely enjoy them).

It is a very difficult time around ucat, interviews and a-levels. Its a lot to process. If you were getting A/A*'s in year 12 with minimal effort you will be okay in year 13, but I will say there is for sure quite a large jump between content of year 12 and 13 chemistry + computer science. 3 hours a day after school will suffice, if you have any free lessons try and dedicate at least 80% of these to study (free lessons carried my a-level grades).
