lack of study in year 12 summer

it's halfway through summer and i have not started any homework or started looking at supercurriculars for computer science. i do not even know if that is truly what i want to do - i am really bad at coding and have not kept up with the homework all year. i'm also on holiday which makes it worse for me to revise does anyone have any advice on what i can do so i can still catch up? i feel really drained and tired and do not know what to do anymore

Hello!

I can assure you that you are not the only one who is feeling this way. You've still got time, so here's a few suggestions:

Firstly, make a to-do list for everything you need to get done. Seeing it on paper might make it less overwhelming so you are not constantly thinking about what you have to get done.

You've still got time to figure out what course you want to do. Start researching and see what appeals to you.

The top two tasks you can do whilst on holiday and won't take you much time at all.

Also, you don't need to be able to code to study computer science at university. They'll teach you everything on the degree.

Really your priority right now is making sure you're on track to getting good grades because you'll need those to get on a degree in the first place!

Thank you!

I've looked at different course and I do find PPE or politics interesting but I find it quite intimidating to engage in right now. I find the intersection of Computer Science and politics intriguing.

I've made a list of everything I need to do - I'm finding it quite hard to tackle. Do you have any tips for tackling work and staying consistent?

I really appreciate it!!

I just finished A-levels and event though I didn't do computer science, I can tell you that in the wider picture you still have plenty of time to do well for A-levels. Most people (who achieve the A*/A grades) in my school studied at January time. As for completing the summer work, you still have time. The first thing I would do is write down everything that you need to do. Absolutely everything. It doesn't matter the order. Then afterwards, you can start listing from highest priority to lowest priority. Lastly, you break down the task into smaller more manageable daily tasks.

Which A-Levels are you doing? @mesub may be able to advice which degrees you should explore.

@Anayik has already given an excellent tip, which is exactly what I was going to suggest. Order your tasks by priority and work through the list. To stay consistent, put the date you plan to complete each task next to it, and when you think of doing it, just do it. Don’t tell yourself you’ll do it later, because you won’t.

I just saw @Anayik's comment - I'll do just that

As far as I know, that's a great combination that allows you to keep your options open for both PPE/politics and computer science. Obviously double check university entry requirements!

Also, there'll be some study groups being set up in the next few weeks here on TSR if you need a place to keep you motivation up.

Good luck!

With those A'levels you're able to access essentially any CS course. The key things are Maths (and FM to access the full range of Unis - Oxbridge, Imperial etc)

If you're interested in the crossover between CS and politics, could you potentially see yourself doing a CS and Philosophy degree? Something to think about.

If you haven't already, try and see if you can go to a few open days for unis. Talk with the academics there about what makes you drawn to both.
