Cardiff University vs Manchester Metropolitan

currently in clearing, I want to do Spanish & Linguistics (joint honours). I got CCC, ive got offers for both cardiff and mmu, which is better to go to?

i hear loads of people say mmu is generally really bad, but i dont hear people talk of cardiff much so im not sure of that either. im not looking for information on league tables and stuff since i can find that myself, im moreso interested on actual experiences from people or what youve heard about the uni, how teachers/other alumni really are, etc.

im feeling a bit stroppy since i missed my firm so neither feel very appealing right now, which is why im asking here to try get some perspective.

MMU is big/busy, Cardiff is smaller- which will suit you better? And check out the study abroad options - any partner Unis or cities you would particularly want to go to?

realistically mmu is better for me since i live way closer to it, but if cardiff is smaller then id probably like that best, thank you!!

also the study abroad options at both are fairly similiar to me tbh, my firm (UoM) had the best one for me haha

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you didn't get into your first choice but please try not to be disheartened - there is so much more to your uni experience that where you go and I'm sure whichever of MMU or Cardiff you end up at you'll end up having a really fab experience!

Cardiff is a really lovely city - there are a few mini supermarkets, plenty of spots to get food, coffee, and some lovely views of the water. The uni itself is also quite close-knit, with the campus being on the small side but green and open. MMU as has been said, is busier and there is generally a faster pace of life in Manchester than Cardiff - that means there could be potentially more to do and see, more of a nightlife etc.

Have you looked at YouTube campus tours? Which do you think you could better see yourself at? Have you also looked in detail at the course contents? Its super-important that you choose the one with the modules you'd find more enjoyable and interesting.

I hope this helps - best of luck with your decision, I'm sure everything will work out fine 🙂

Hi @Benjamin_1830

So sorry to hear you missed out on your firm choice. If you've got a clearing offer for our BA (Hons) Spanish and Linguistics course I'd recommend coming to our clearing visit day as that will give you the opportunity to have a look round campus and chat with the course academics and some of its current students, so you get a real feel for the campus and help decide whether Manchester Met is right for you and that you like the look of the course. It's not just down to whether you like the course, you have to have a good feeling about the campus vibe too. If you've not yet received the link to book on, you can contact our Visit Day team at [email protected].

I'd also recommend having a look on our student ambassador chat platform. There's lots of content on there from our ambassadors showing you what the city of Manchester has to offer, as well as the uni itself. You can also chat with one of our language students who is currently studying TESOL and Mandarin Chinese. You can access the chat platform here.

If you have any questions about our course, you're welcome to contact our Course Enquiries team and they will be able to advise: 0161 247 6969.

Hope this helps.
Mel 😊
