Predicted grades for Oxford

Has anyone gotten an interview for Oxford with A*AB predicted grades? I’m gonna try move the B up to an A in September but I’m just curious
I want to apply for History and English and you need an A in English Lit/Language which I already have, but it’s literally just my history grade that I need moving up.
Can I realistically bump it up a grade before sending off an early application???

A*AB would not get you an interview at Oxford, unless you can provide some contextual reason. Oxford gets lots of really good applicants with the minimum entry requirements and only interview 3 applicants per place. That means many people won't make it to interview.
Work hard and aim to get your History up to an A 🙂

The thing is that even if you got offered a place, it would be an AAA offer. If you are predicted AAB then your school is predicting that they think it’s unlikely you would make the conditions of the offer. Why then would an admissions tutor want to use a slot on someone in that position (where their school is telling them that it will be a wasted offer) when they will be choosing between many people who are predicted at least 3 As.

History and English is a highly competitve and oversubscribed course at Oxford University.

So, you should work hard between now and June 2026 and achieve at least an A grade or even surprise yourself with an A* grade perhaps? 😛 lol

Also, don't forget to use past papers, 'scrutinise' the mark schemes and read the examiner reports. 😉

Therefore your best choice is to wait to apply post A-Level, especially if you cannot persuade your teacher to predict you an A grade in A-Level History. ☹️
