I’m assuming that you’re year 12/incoming year 13 based on you getting GCSE results in 2024? So I’m going to base this all off of that, and what I would do if I was you.

This year absolutely focus on your a levels, they are incredibly important for med, and year 13 absolutely flies by!

After that, I would take a gap year to take/retake a couple GCSE’s in the exam season of 2027, take the UCAT and send off an October UCAS application to 4 universities which prioritise the UCAT over GCSEs. Try your best to get some NHS volunteering if you haven’t already, and just as much general experience you can get (labs, care homes, hospitals and even primary schools all work.)

It sounds like an awful lot of work, but if you are set on medicine and would rather enter straight into a med degree compared to graduate entry, this is the only avenue I see that fully works.

Please take my advice with a grain of salt, as I did not apply for medicine (I did Biomed) but 4 of my friends did who all got at least one offer so I’ve been around the experience a LOT! I’m sure you will get a lot of brilliant advice. With enough hard work over the next 2 years, anything is possible, and I am wishing you all the best of luck!!

I’m going to year 12 now because my school of 14 recently shut and it’s just been a whirlwind of crazy stuff that’s been happening to me like during my GCSEs one of my family members had cancer and I also JUST found out that I’m dyslexic so what’s the advice based on this i probably should’ve added this

Who says that you ' need 5 6s'?

If you meet any specific GCSE requirements, typically English and/or Maths, then even for Medicine, Universities are far more interested in your A levels, UKCAT score and Personal Statement.
