Architecture - what device is best?

Hi
My son hope to study architecture (thinking Sheffield or Manchester are his preferred universities) - he’s about to go into Y13
My question is what laptop / computer do students find the best? We don’t have a huge budget for this- so I’m hoping that the university has the tech that they need to do their projects! Any recommendations or advice appreciated! Thank you

My son bought a gaming laptop but they are not cheap. Gaming laptops usually have the processing power and graphics card that are able to handle the 3D rendering programs used in architecture. Saying that, many unis don't start using these programs until year 2. It may be that the uni your son goes to has resources in the department so that he would be able to get a basic laptop just for essay writing, etc. It would be best to wait until at least results day next year so that you know which uni he will be going to for certain and then ask the uni what is required (and may be start saving in the meantime ).
