Uni rankings

Hi does anyone have advice on how much subject rankings matter? Thinking about deferring and reapplying next year at either Durham or Edinburgh, both are top ten national and would lean towards Edinburgh BUT history ranking for Durham is 4 in the uk and Edinburgh is 18. So how much does this make a difference. Is it well known that Edinburgh is worse for history?

They are both known as very good universities, and that is the total amount of detail employers will ever go into.

They are a complete waste of time. they can't be replicated and aren't done 'scientifically' or valid in any way.

Go to the uni which has the course that interested you most.
