I need some advice - laptop or Ipad for sixth form notes?

I’m a little bit worried because my uncle just brought me a new laptop for when I start sixthform and I’m so grateful but I’m doing alevels in bio chem and maths and literally everyone I’m on social media is saying that iPads are so much better for those subjects and a laptop will just stress you out so now I’m worried that I’m going to have a hard time doing my alevels and I can’t afford to go buy an iPad or a tablet so I don’t know what to do. Will I be ok with a laptop and using paper for revision and exam practice?

Please do not worry! I promise you laptops and paper are brilliant. At the start of year 12 I watched a substantial chunk of my Biology class take notes with iPads… for about 4 weeks. Then pretty much everyone went back to google docs and notebooks.

Especially with maths and chem!! Trust me, I love drawing on an iPad but personally I could not do Chemistry calculations on it for the life of me. Plus, the paper is what you’ll use in the exam, every bit of mindset prep helps!

I promise you will do brilliantly in A levels on a laptop. Some people like working on iPads, but not working on one will in no way get in the way of your future successes. Although with your subject choices, speaking from fresh experience here, stock up on lots of A4 paper!! You will need it lol. I’m wishing you all the best!! Good luck!

Hi! You’ll be just fine! I used an iPad too, but I used my laptop as well. I didn’t study Chemistry, but I did study Maths. When I would use my laptop, I used Physics & Maths Tutor for exam questions and Maths Genie for past papers. A laptop is great for having the pages in a landscape format, and what I would do is try those questions in a Maths book or on a whiteboard. I would recommend getting a whiteboard, though try to get something bigger than A4, perhaps bigger than A3 even (maybe one of those office-size ones) because you’ll need space for longer questions.

Don’t be so worried about what other people say, a lot of times they just want to make you feel inferior by saying stuff like ‘oh you don’t have the right equipment’ simply to put you down and inflate their egos. Make use of what you have and budget wisely! A whiteboard will give you a similar experience to an iPad writing app!

I will be honest, I don’t do any of those subjects. But a lot of the people I know who do them use a pen and paper, and store them in a folder because it is so much easier to have them old school style - and I agree (although I do 3 essay based subjects😂)
